The History of the Crew Neck

Since 1913, the crewneck sweatshirt has remained an enduring icon. 

Originally designed as a T-shirt for US Navy sailors to provide warmth and cover chest hair, the crewneck evolved into the sweatshirt we know today. In 1920, football player Benjamin Russell Jr created an alternative to itchy wool jerseys, birthing the crewneck sweatshirt.
